City of Seattle - Neighborhoods Matching Funds

It has been a while since our last post, and we have very WONDERFUL news! Mariachi Seattle Azteca has been offered the City of Seattle Neigborhoods Matching Funds Grant!!!! We are very grateful to El Centro de la Raza who has sponsored for this great and wonderful project! With this money, Mariachi Seattle Azteca will be able to purchase "trajes" (or outifts) for the Mariachi, also buy a few extra trajes for new members, and to purchase a violin and a guitar for educational events for the community! In exchange, Mariachi Seattle Azteca will be putting on a few educational events for the community and also providing our services to community events free of charge. This truly is a wonderful thing for us and we wanted to share that excitement with everyone!!

At this event, scholarships (sponsored by The Boeing Company, Seattle MESA Advisory Board, and individual donors) are presented to outstanding MESA high school students. What is Mesa? (From www.seattlemesa.org)
In MESA, African-American, Native American, Latino and female students prepare for college in mathematics, engineering, and science, beginning in elementary school, and continuing through high school. MESA supports students, teachers, and parents with innovative, hands-on programs and opportunities. With a proven track record of success, MESA is a partnership that brings leaders from higher education and business into the classroom to engage K - 12 students in the careers of the future. MESA is changing the culture and the face of mathematics, engineering, and science.

MESA classes, clubs, after-school programs and summer programs help underrepresented students visualize themselves in college and careers related to mathematics, engineering, and science. Through hands-on math and science activities and field trips, students apply their learning to real-world situations.

MESA services include MESA enriched math and science classes, after school and summer programs, pre-college advising and support, participation in national engineering conferences, local, state and national competitions, internships with local businesses and research centers, role models and mentors, parent workshops and field trips, teacher professional development, and integrated science and math curriculum.
